Our spring Quilt Market adventure has started! Our first surprise was the added stop in San Diego - we thought we had one stop in St. Louis and then on to Minneapolis….but when we got to the airport, we found out we were going to San Diego first, and then on to St. Louis! Luckily, our bags travelled FREE (on Southwest) and survived the transfers, and we arrived in Minneapolis at 10:30 pm…. only to find our hotel room was given away!

Although we had booked months in advance, and confirmed our late arrival, they had overbooked and given away our room! However, they did give us a free night at another hotel - the Ramada Plaza Inn, and everyone has been so nice.

We are on the way back to our original hotel now, and then will be off to check in at Quilt Market. It should be a fun day and we’ll update you with more later!

There is a new Always Quilting Exclusive pattern: “Feature Fabric Fun”! It is easy and fun and can be made with 10 fat quarters and one feature fabric. I Love this pattern because it is so versatile and so fast, it is really great for any fabric and any occasion. Enjoy!

We have been using our newest pattern, Zig Zag Zoom for our summer kids camps. Each week, the kids make a quilt from start to finish - we let them use the HandiQuilter long-arm machine to quilt their quilts, and then on Friday, we put on a fun movie and they learn to do their hand binding.
This pattern is so fun and easy, and the variety of fabrics you can use is endless; We’ve seen it in batiks, Asians, florals, novelty, holiday, and more… You can use either twelve fat quarters, resulting in a different feature fabric in each large square, or you can use one feature fabric in all of the squares and then you will need eight coordinating fat quarters for your accent fabrics. This pattern was also featured by P & B Fabrics with their new collection, Safari So Good. It really looked great with the safari animals and their coordinating fabrics. Take a look here:

Looking at the colors and patterns in nature is a great way to get inspired. The shapes, sizes, patterns and mixtures of colors that are found in plants, aminals, water, etc are great ideas for how to use your fabrics!

Both the colors and the pattern of the sunflower could be translated into a quilt Nature provides a beautiful color palet

A natural pattern that could be done with triangular fabric pieces
